Hiking and Walking

There are many beautiful hiking and nature walks located just minutes from Highlands! Here are a few (actually a lot) of our favorites and recommendations from locals.

Dining

Whether you're looking for a quick bite, a coffee, a cocktail, or fine dining, Highlands has lots of options for eating and drinking.

Personally, we've enjoyed meals at Madison's, The Stubborn Buddha, Highlands Pizza Place, Calder's Coffee, and The Ugly Dog. For a pre-dinner drink or cocktail, we love the Hummingbird Lounge!

At the top of our list to try are Four65, The Stubborn Bull, Blue Bike Cafe, Oak Steakhouse, HIghlands Tavern, and Wild Thyme.

Highlands Wine Shoppe

269 Oak St, Highlands, NC 28741, USA

Offers a wide selection of bottled and by-the-glass wines as well as WineStation self-serve tasting machines. Comfortable indoor and outdoor lounge spaces to socialize and relax. One of Drew and Taylor's favorite spots in town!

Golf at Old Edward's Club

828-526-1783

"The course at OEC is an 18-hole Tom Jackson design with stunning views and fantastic conditions on a very challenging layout. This is a true mountain course with 3 holes dropping over 180 feet playing along and on both sides of the Eastern Continental Divide."

The Old Edwards Club tee sheet is blocked from 9:00-12:50 for member play only, leaving the 8:00 hour or anything 1:00 or later for guest play.

The rate for golf is $285/person including green fee and cart for 18 holes (1/2 that for 9 holes).

Breakfast and lunch options are available as well as a beverage cart on course.

Please contact the club directly to book!

Golf at The Saddle at GlenCove

(828) 526-1783

"The Saddle is a 12-hole walking par 3 course with holes that range from 80-180 yards, with a great variety of shots, and fantastic greens complexes. The course was recently rated the #4 short private course in the country behind Augusta National, Pine Valley and Philadelphia Cricket Club."

There are no restrictions on tee times at The Saddle. You can book anytime you want between 9:00 and 5:00.

The group size limit is larger at The Saddle than Old Edwards Club; you can play as 5somes, 6somes, 7somes or even 8somes as long as reasonable pace is maintained.

The rate to play The Saddle is $125/person for all day play (as many rounds as you have time to play). "The typical pace of play for a foursome is 1.5-2 hours, so we have many groups that will play, have lunch and then play again!"

The Saddle provides complimentary push carts, carry bags and electronic caddies to make the walk easier. There is a charge of $28 for electronic caddies.

Guests would have access to the dining area at the Entertainment Barn for any food and beverage needs.
